Report on the first day
You’ve no doubt noticed project representatives observing traffic at the intersection of Route 132 and the detour road on the first day of road work. We wanted to be sure that the detour was working effectively. While rush hour this morning went relatively well, we are planning some adjustments to improve traffic flow.
In order to do this, we are removing the stop sign on the detour road and replacing it with a priority pedestrian crossing pass. We will also add signage panels indicating access to the two lane La Prairie access ramp as well as the detour.
Before definitively closing the ramp, we wanted to be very sure that the closure did not cause hours of delays. On the first morning of work, waiting time was longer than usual, but we estimate that access to the bridge took on average 20 to 30 minutes, for traffic coming from either La Prairie or Châteauguay. We also want to remind users that the detour as well as the La Prairie access ramp is two lanes wide, as opposed to what was usual previously.
In the coming weeks, the contractor will ensure that the work site is ready to accommodate moving of the first deck panels. Preparatory, including the removal of rivets and bolts as well as cutting of certain steel beams on the bridge necessitated full closure of Ramp 4 . Users won’t see evidence of work on the first decking panels for a few weeks.

It took me an extra 25 minutes to get into work. Without the stop signs it took 15 minutes extra. Coincidence?

Hello
I live in Chateauguay and I take the bridge at 4:30am to go work in the West Island so for me there isn’t any traffic but I do agree that the stop sign has to be removed to improve the flow. Will you be taken photos on the removal of the old bridge sections? that should be interesting.
Thank You
Tony
