Due to the temporary partial closing of the Honoré-Mercier Bridge, the Ministère des Transports du Québec and the Agence métropolitaine de transport are announcing a traffic management plan.

Traffic on the Honoré-Mercier Bridge

Effective today, the Ministère des Transports is implementing traffic control in the predominant direction of flow for the morning and evening peak periods. Thus, in the morning, two lanes will be available towards Montréal, while in the afternoon, traffic will be reversed in the other direction, with two lanes towards the South Shore. Users going to Châteauguay will continue on Route 138. Those who want to reach Route 132 Eastbound (towards La Prairie) will have to continue on Route 138 to the Route 207 turnoff and then access Route 132 Eastbound. Signs will be installed all along the route.

The changes in direction will take effect at noon and midnight and will result in short-term complete closings.

On weekends, from midnight on Friday evening to midnight on Sunday evening, one lane of traffic against the flow will be set up in each direction.

The prohibition of westbound traffic of heavy vehicles remains in force.

Consult the traffic maintenance map on the MTQ website at mtq.gouv.qc.ca.

Increasing the supply of public transit

Effective tomorrow, three additional departures to Montréal will be added to the six departures already in place on the Candiac commuter train line. These trains will leave Candiac Station at 6:35 a.m., 8:25 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. respectively.

Three departures will also be added on this same commuter train line to Candiac, adding to the six departures already in place in the same direction. The trains will leave Lucien-L’Allier Station at 9:35 a.m., 3:55 p.m. and 5:55 p.m.

Users who choose to travel by commuter train can ensure flexible mobility by using theincentive parking lot near the stations. To meet the demand, the parking lots will be expanded as follows: Candiac Station from 110 to 170 places, Saint-Constant Station from 172 to 242 places, and Sainte-Catherine Station from 439 to 689 places. The Châteauguay incentive parking lot will be expanded by 60 places.

More security guards will also be assigned to the different AMT sites (parking lots, train stations, bus terminals) to ensure that operations run smoothly, direct the users and answer questions.

The AMT announces to its users that bus service will be improved with additional departures to ensure adequate passenger service in the greater metropolitan region, based on the discussions with certain regional transit authorities, the Conseils intermunicipaux de transport (CIT). The public is also invited to use the service offered by Express Chevrier, taking the reserved lane on the Champlain Bridge, for which the summer schedule has been revised to offer increased service.

Car pooling

The Ministère des Transports and the AMT are seeking the cooperation of road users and encourage them to car pool or use public transit to mitigate the effects of this closing on the entire road network.

To find out more about public transit and car pooling services and the train and bus schedules, the public is invited to consult the AMT website at www.amt.qc.ca and to watch for upcoming communications for details on the mitigation measures and the existing public transit services.

We wish to inform you that traffic on the Honoré-Mercier Bridge will be reduced to one lane in each direction (towards Montreal and towards the South Shore) on Friday, June 10 at 11:59 PM until Monday, June 13 at 5 AM, from June 23 at 23:59 PM to Monday June 27 at 5 AM and from Thursday, June 30 at 23:50 PM to Monday, July 4 at 5 AM.

Please also note that the Airlie ramp enabling access to the Honoré Mercier Bridge towards the South Shore from Airlie St. will be closed during this period.

Traffic may be more difficult for the duration of this roadwork and motorists are invited to use the Champlain Bridge during this period, where no major obstructions are scheduled during these three weekends.

These closures will allow for important maneuvers needed in order to completely replace the gusset plates, that is, the structural elements used to connect the various steel membranes on the structure of the bridge.

The upstream bridge of the Honoré-Mercier Bridge, namely the bridge that enables access to the South Shore (Route 138 West), will be completely closed to traffic during this period. Although the work is not taking place on the bridge itself, the maneuvers needed in order to replace the plates do require the maximum reduction of loads on the bridge. Therefore, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction, with one being against the current of traffic on the downstream bridge (Route 138 East).
